Binks Back Online

Minions:

Apparently the blog-freeze issue was personal information in a comment.. still, astonishing that WordPress doesn't ask you to remove the offending info-- nor inform you specifically what's wrong--  just freezes your posting/ editing access.

WP removed the comment (possibly Asad Raza info.. not sure) and unfrozed the blog this morning.

Torture The Bloggers!

So this blog is back-- but whilst enjoying yesterday's whatnot, I was reminded that due to Mr. Raza's remarkable harassment, Marginalized Action Dinosaur is still offline, and trying to migrate his site offshore to Denmark; and I learned that the fine blog Mitchieville is now going to be forced offline because of Asad Raza, MD's persistent efforts. What will we ever do without Mitchieville & his endless fun (as below)?

According to Mitch, Raza has hired internet/ new media lawyers Traverse Legal to back up all his "I Will Sue You!" e-mails. Whether that would actually lead to legal action, or just a retainer to allow more bellowing is unclear.

Questions Remain

And while we're at it , where does this serial blog-attacker live? Brampton? Timbuktoo? Glenwood Indiana? Is his wrath against blogs resurrecting his NotCanada.com material because he's trying to move back to Canada? The rest of this story remains to be told.

Freedom: It's Ours To Lose.

P.S. Thanks to all the folks who e-mailed & blogged their support over the past day. Good to know you'd miss this blogger.

The Letter

Hi,
It's not a Free Speech  issue when personal information is posted in a comment to your blog.
That is breach of privacy and covered by the Terms of Service.

A comment was edited to remove some personal information.
The blog does now work.

Dear Mark:

Since this blogger is not a mind-reader, how could I possibly know what was up, exactly?

I tried to post, saw the "Warning: We have a concern about some of the content on your blog. Please click here to contact us as soon as possible to resolve the issue and re-enable posting."

Content? Huh?

Your current 'process' is an abuse of natural justice, the common law, and basic courtesy.
  1. At no point was I informed as to the exact nature of the problem, the possible remedy, the specific TOS violation, nor the identity of my complainant.
  2. The blog was frozen due to non-specific "content", said the anonymous message.. when the problem was a comment by someone else.
  3. Nor was I given a choice to freely delete the offending comment.
Speaking as someone who just went through it, your TOS process needs to be fixed up, to provide more information, user interaction, and less top-down "Guilty Until Proven Innocent".

  1. Dear Elf.

I like wordpress. use it on my blog (www.pukeko.net.nz). Which is hosted by a2 hosting, who WILL set up a lovely WP site for you, that works.

Cost -- about 15 kiwi bucks a month. (Low Traffic. No one reads depressing Calvinism apart from me).

But it is hosted in the USA. And (depending on your jurisdiction) deemed to be published there (not in NZ, where it is published in NZ if read in NZ. Stoopid precedent -- see http://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2010/09/analysing_police_v_slater.html)

Back up your files -- do able on wordpress, find someone with nice wizards to restore it, and move it to a company that just keeps the boxen up.
